Meet the Principal
Mr Michael Bond is the Principal of Kerang Christian College in Kerang, Victoria, a school established in 1983. Michael was appointed in 2012 and will oversee the growth of the College as it expands further into Secondary School. Year 8 studies will be offered for the first time in 2012. Kerang Christian College is an independent Christian coeducational school with students studying from Prep to Year 8.
Michael has worked in Government and Independent Christian schools and has taught in Australia and the United States of America. He has a Master of Science in Education specialising in K-6 Education and a Bachelor of Information Systems degree with majors in Electronic Commerce and Logic and Philosophy of Science. Michael has professional interests in curriculum development, gifted and talented education and the use of standardised testing in education. He is also interested in the successful transition of students between Primary and Secondary schooling. He is passionate about helping students to challenge their personal limits and to develop a growth mindset.
At Oxley Christian College Michael was a Year 6 teacher and the Gifted and Talented Education Coordinator in the Junior School (K-6). He was a member of the Teaching and Learning Committee and was dedicated to providing students with a challenging curriculum. He also assisted in the development of a Gifted and Talented Education Program at the College through serving on a Gifted and Talented Education Working Party.
Michael was the Vice President of the Victorian Association for Gifted and Talented Children in 2010 and 2011 and has served on the VAGTC committee since 2009.
In 2011, Michael was interviewed by the Education and Training Committee of the Victorian Parliament as part of the Parliamentary Inquiry into the Education of Gifted and Talented Students in Victoria.
Michael has published work in Vision, which is the journal of the Victorian Association for Gifted and Talented Children. He has written about perfectionism, NAPLAN and the underachievement of gifted students. He has also contributed articles to a range of websites.
Athletics and Cross Country have been sports close to Michael’s heart. He first discovered his love for running at a very young age while running around the schoolyard at recess. Michael predominantly competed in the 800m, 1500m and cross country events during his career. He has been ranked in the top 30 in Australia in the 800m and 1500m, and in 2006 was ranked number 1 in Australia in the 1000m. Michael has qualified for two Olympic Trials and finished 11th at the 2000 Australian Olympic Trials in the 1500m. He was the Oceania Games Champion in the 1500m in 2000 and has been the Tasmanian State Open Champion in the 800m, 1000m and 1500m.
